Superman Family #219 Lois Lane

Award-winning reporter, incomparable electronic journalist, adventurer, explorer, even trouble-maker she's a little bit of them all but though her by-line is world famous she's best known as  Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane.

As so we reach the last of this issue's Superman Family stories with Lois.  It begins with everyone's favorite character Mark Spencer being well a Mark Spencer.  By the way look at that art it's gorgeous but more on that later.

Yes, in a city of seven million Mark has located another girl named Lois Lane, what are the chances?  No really, I'm bad with statistics what are the chances?

It seems Lois two is new in town and being new in town she did the thing you always do in new cities, grab a newspaper to see if any of the reporters have the same name as you.  Again look at that art but more on that later.

Lois 1 assumes Lois 2 is just another runaway to which Lois 2 replies that a good reporter shouldn't make assumptions.  Lois 2 tells her story about coming to Metropolis for the first time.  Pay close attention to the purse snatcher panel, more on that later.

Lois 1 says she needs to take Lois 2 to the police.  At which point Lois 2 ignores her own advice on assumptions and assumes Lois 1 is going to turn her in as a runaway.  Lois 1 watches helplessly from the cab not really caring enough to chase Lois 2 down.

The next day Lois 1 is looking gorgeous and thinking about Lois 2 when Mark of all people is called a genius.

Yes Lois 2 went back to the only other person she had met in Metropolis, except of course Mark and everyone else at the Daily Planet.  Lois 2 then proceeds to make a lot of assumptions again and based on nothing more than the assumptions of a young girl she just met, Lois prepares to assault a stranger.

And now we have to have a little talk.  As I said the art in this story is beautiful, until the characters have to fight.  The artist has the opposite of Jack Kirby syndrome.  Characters look great when they're just standing around but the action panels look stiff they simply lack any sense of dynamism.

I mean look at that flip it's just terrible.  Luckily the action only lasts one page and we can get back to the Planet and everyone looking beautiful.  Hey there's Clark.

And Lois gets to wink at the readers, yeah I like that.

So Superman Family four stories for $1.00 (that's $2.48 in today's money) it's a bargain and it's a lesson for modern comic publishers.  In comparison Batman and Superman costs $3.99 and has about 6 pages of story and it's not very good.

Next time-- Even A Superman Dies!
