So if you've read my numerous online rants you know I believe the 80s ruined everything. Among the things it ruined was the DC Universe, see Crisis on Infinite Earths.
So after the cancellation of All-Star Squadron (which I loved) Roy Thomas who loves the Golden Age created Young All-Stars. The theory behind Young All-Stars was that the energy of the destroyed Golden Aged heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman went to create new heroes. The first issue was kind of let's meet everyone. Not a great read but ... gorgeous cover.
And it seems the All-Stars brought the whole team not that Green Lantern's ring or all the Spectre's power seems to be any help.
Mekanique kills everyone except Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle only for them to be quickly dispatched.
Luckily(?) it was all dream. And Johnny comes up to comfort his niece?
You've got to give Libby credit for being a good sport I don't think my wife would be so understanding. Johnny decides that the thing to do is let Helena in on their secret ids? I think Johnny is trying a little to hard to impress his 'niece.'
After some reader-feeder about Helena's origin we cut to Neptune Perkins in Santa Barbara. Here we are introduced to Tsunami.
Tsunami fills Neptune Perkins in on how her father was arrested and she revealed her powers to the G-Men. She then fled home and vowed not to return until her father and her people are free.
Next we meet Flying Fox,
The RCAF pilots can't believe their eyes which is kind of silly since this is still a world with the Golden Age Green Lantern and lots of other flying heroes.
Now we get down to the meet and potatoes. TNT and Dyna-Mite are busting up some Nazi saboteurs. Lacking any speed related powers the two follow in a car. Meanwhile nearby Iron Munro is having midnight picnic. Yes a midnight picnic.
The Nazis shoot out TNT's tire causing a terrible crash but Munro is in hot pursuit.
Munro stops the car but ruins his shirt. Not to worry he has a lot more black shirts.
Munro pulls TNT and Dyna-Mite from the wreck but TNT is gone. He died in a car wreck not a very heroic way for a guy to go. Gudra collects TNT while Munro takes Dyna-Mite to the hospital.
Gudra returns her headquarters where we are introduced to Axis Amerika.
The end. So as I said this let's meet all the team members issue not really much of a story there but it got better I remember liking the Young All-Stars but I didn't love it like I did the old All-Star Squadron.
Letter page with just Roy explaining things.
